WELCOME!
If this is your family’s first summer with Mohican Swim, you’re in the right place.
We know swim team can feel like a lot at first—but don’t worry. Once the season gets going, it all starts to make sense quickly.
At its core, Mohican Swim is about:
- Kids having fun
- Building confidence in the water
- Making friends
- Being part of a team
And honestly? It ends up being just as fun for parents, too.
🌊 What Does Swim Team Actually Involve?
There are three main parts to the season:
1. Practices
Swimmers attend practices throughout the week to build skills and stamina.
- Before school ends: afternoon practices
- After school ends: morning + afternoon options
👉 You don’t have to attend every day
Come when you can—many families balance swim with camps, vacations, and other activities.
2. Meets (This Is Where the Fun Happens)
There are two types of meets:
🌟 B Meets (Wednesdays)
- Open to all swimmers
- With another neighborhood pool
- Relaxed, low-pressure, and fun
- Great for learning how meets work
🏆 A Meets (Saturdays)
- More competitive meets against other teams in our Division
- Swimmers are selected by coaches based on times and availability
- Not everyone swims every week—and that’s totally normal
3. Team Fun
This is a big part of what makes Mohican special:
- 🎉 Pep Rallies (Friday nights): games, cheers, and lots of energy
- 🍕 Social events: chances for kids to hang out outside the pool
- 🏅 End-of-season banquet: celebrate the summer together
🧪 How Do I Know Which Group My Child Is In?
For younger swimmers (8 & under), we help with placement.
If your child is new, they’ll attend a quick evaluation so coaches can recommend:
- Pre-Team (learning fundamentals), or
- Swim Team (ready for full laps and meets)
👉 Don’t stress—placement is flexible, and kids move up as they improve.
🙋What Do Parents Need to Do?
Two main things:
1. Sign Your Swimmer Up for Meets
Each week, you’ll indicate whether your swimmer is available.
- B meets: you choose events
- A meets: coaches create the lineup
2. Volunteer (You’ve Got This)
Swim team runs on parent help—but it’s easier than it sounds.
- You’ll sign up for simple roles (timing, helping line kids up, etc.)
- It’s actually one of the best ways to meet people
👉 Pro tip: Start with a B meet job—they’re relaxed and beginner-friendly.
📣 How Do I Stay Organized?
We’ll keep you in the loop:
- 📧 Weekly emails (read these—they’re your roadmap!)
- 📅 Swimtopia (for meet sign-ups and schedules)
- 🐦 Twitter (for real-time updates like weather changes)
🤔 Common First-Year Questions
Do we have to go to everything?
Nope. Swim team is flexible—participate as much as works for your family.
What if my child is nervous?
Totally normal. B meets and pep rallies help kids ease in quickly.
What if we don’t understand how meets work?
You won’t at first—and that’s okay. You’ll pick it up fast (and other parents are always happy to help).
❤️ One Last Thing
The first week might feel a little confusing. By week two, you’ll start to get it. By mid-season, you’ll feel like a pro.
And your kid?
They’ll be having a blast, improving every week, and asking to go to practice.
Welcome to the team—we’re really glad you’re here.
